SmartestEnergy shortlisted for Guardian Sustainable Business Awards

SmartestEnergy has been shortlisted for a Guardian Sustainable Business Award for our renewable electricity products and energy label! Mike Shirley explains how this national recognition will help us continue to drive corporate demand for renewable power.

Today’s announcement of the shortlist for the Guardian Sustainable Business Awards brought some great news for us – we’ve been shortlisted in the “Bold Move” category for our renewable electricity products and energy label.

This recognition shows that our approach to supplying business renewable electricity really does stand out from the crowd. By championing transparency and putting customer needs first - something the energy industry isn't known for - we’re providing a solution for sustainable businesses to confidently purchase renewable electricity.

We worked with the Carbon Trust to develop an Emissions Factor Model which enables us to provide customers with an energy label showing the source of their renewable electricity and the carbon emissions – both of which are unique in the market. The model is certified to GHG Protocol Product Standard so our customers can report zero scope 2 emissions for the electricity they purchase from us.

Being included in such a respected award programme alongside many sustainability leaders is a great validation of the work we’ve been doing and will help us continue to drive the conversation about renewable energy and the important role businesses have to play in driving the low-carbon economy.
