Masayuki Omoto, who has worked in the global energy industry for more than 20 years, has joined SmartestEnergy as Chief Operating Officer.
He replaces Hiroyuki Sawada who has served in the post since 2010.
During his career to date Mr Omoto has worked across the energy sector including generation, transmission and distribution, vertically-integrated regulated utilities and the LNG sector.
He also has significant international experience having worked in Turkey, the US and Japan.
As Chief Operating Officer at SmartestEnergy he will have responsibility across functions including sales and marketing, trading, risk management, customer services, finance and HR.
“I am very excited to be joining the management team at SmartestEnergy which has developed market-leading products and service,” said Mr Omoto.
“With such strong foundations in place, I look forward to supporting the company during its next phase of sustainable growth.
Masayuki joined SmartestEnergy’s parent company Marubeni Corporation in 1992, initially working in the Overseas Power Project Department on investments in Japan, the US and Turkey.
He later moved to work with McKinsey & Company as a management consultant in Japan before re-joining Marubeni as General Manager in the Power Project Investment Team.
His latest role was as Assistant General Manager in the LNG Department.
Mr Omoto is a graduate of Waseda University in Tokyo and holds an MBA with distinction from Harvard Business School.
