Concerns about climate change have become a mainstream issue for investors, according to one of the world’s largest investment managers.

US firm BlackRock said the issue was no longer simply the reserve of “ethical” investors.

Ewen Cameron Watt, Chief Investment Strategist at BlackRock, said: “Even if you are sceptical of global warming and its causes, no one should ignore that significant regulatory, economic and technological faEnergyctors make this a major investment issue.

“Investors, corporations and governments are focusing on the risks and opportunities, as well as how best to tackle the challenges that are arising.
“These profound changes have the potential to affect asset prices in all areas for a long time to come.”

Green bond market

BlackRock’s comments come ahead of next month’s United Nations climate change talks in Paris.

The firm is promoting the “green” bond market, alongside Barclays, Credit Suisse and HSBC.

BlackRock has also launched its own environmentally-focused investment fund.
