An environmental think tank has called on countries to accelerate their climate change plans.
The Netherlands-based Institute for European Energy & Climate Policy (IEECP) wants governments to step-up their efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions before the Paris Agreement is formally adopted in April 2017.
The IEECP said: “Instead of allowing the years passing by, we call for action. Here and now.
“Let’s ensure that the political momentum built up in Paris – involving 150 head of states and prime ministers – does not fade away.”
The IEECP said that each country can increase its intended nationally-determined contribution (INDC).
The think tank added: “Let’s start reviewing, revising and strengthening the INDCs.
“Engage as many countries and governments as possible.”
