SmartestEnergy and Metis Energy seal solar energy pact for Gunsynd Solar Farm in Queensland
SmartestEnergy Australia proudly announces the formalisation of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Metis Energy.
SmartestEnergy Australia, an independent renewable energy company committed to delivering innovative energy solutions, proudly announces the formalisation of a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Metis Energy. Metis Energy, headquartered in Singapore, specialises in the development of renewable energy assets across the Asia Pacific region and is developing an Australian renewable energy portfolio.
Gunsynd Solar Farm, nestled in Southwest Queensland near Goondiwindi, has a capacity of 111 MWp and is able to generate more than 250 GWh of electricity per year. This is equivalent to abating approximately 150,000 tons of CO2 emissions and powering up to 46,000 households in Queensland annually.
"This Power Purchase Agreement with Metis Energy represents a strategic collaboration towards enhancing Queensland's renewable energy infrastructure. The development of the Gunsynd Solar Farm is an important step in supporting the state's transition to a sustainable energy future, while contributing to local economic development." - Rob Owens, CEO of SmartestEnergy Australia.
Early works on the site have started from Q2 2023 and Notice to Proceed was provided to the EPC Contractor in February 2024. Gunsynd Solar Farm will actively engage the local community by creating employment opportunities, supporting local businesses and bolstering the region's growth.
Metis Energy's Cornerstone Project in Australia
Singapore-based Metis Energy acquired the development rights of Gunsynd Solar Farm in Goondiwindi, South-West Queensland, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Athena Energy Holdings Pte Ltd, on 22 December 2022.
The Gunsynd Solar Farm project will serve as the cornerstone of Metis Energy's expanding Australian portfolio. The experience gained during its execution will be instrumental as the Metis Energy team gears up to embark on the Bendemeer Renewable Hub Project, encompassing solar, wind and battery energy storage solutions.
"Metis Energy is pleased to have entered into this agreement with SmartestEnergy, and we hope to continue this partnership going forward." – Tang Kin Fei, Executive Chairman and Interim Chief Executive Officer of Metis Energy
Community Engagement and Sustainable Development
Metis Energy is committed to fostering strong relationships with local communities, Town Councils and stakeholders. The team is dedicated to delivering the Goondiwindi Solar Farm Project in alignment with international best practices, targeting full operational readiness by 2025.
This long-term PPA between SmartestEnergy and Metis Energy marks another commitment to renewable energy development in the Asia Pacific region, supporting the transition to net zero.
