Overview
The principal role of the Senior Business Analyst/Project Manager is to lead in the design, development, processes and controls for SmartestEnergy’s trading and risk management systems covering the ERCOT, PJM, NYISO and ISONE ISOs. A successful individual in this position will bridge the gap between the wholesale and risk desk's objectives and the technology solutions supporting them. A strong knowledge of the wholesale energy and distributed energy business is required in order to establish an effective working relationship with stakeholders. In this role, you will be involved with the following:
- Coordination/Collaboration: Lead efforts across internal IT and business employees, vendors, brokers, and customers toward common deliverables.
- Creative Problem Solving: Maintain wider team problem-solving and analysis, balancing data, technology, business, and operational issues to deliver viable solutions.
- Project Management: Manage smaller to medium sized projects according to internal methodologies, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
- Requirements Analysis: Conduct detailed business analysis to identify stakeholder needs and develop solutions for business problems.
- Documentation: Create and validate comprehensive system functional and technical specifications.
- Testing: Develop and execute user acceptance test plans and scenarios.
- Data Analysis: Perform data analysis to support system defect evaluation and new functionality requirements.
- Stakeholder Communication: Facilitate communication between local users and central IT teams.
- Change Management: Support change management processes and user needs.
- System Upgrades: Manage system upgrades and ensure successful resolution of incidents and anomalies.
To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
- Experience: 3+ years in a Business Systems Analysis role, with a focus on the Energy industry.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of software development lifecycle methodologies, data modeling, and entity relationships.
- Certifications: PMP, ITIL, CBAP, Six Sigma, or similar certifications are preferred.
- Industry Knowledge: REQUIRED Familiarity with the U.S. Retail Energy, Energy Wholesale Trading, and/or Distributed Energy sectors, ERCOT experience a plus.
- Collaborative: Personable, team-oriented, respectful, and empathetic individual who is comfortable working with both on-site and remote team members.
- Analytical Thinking: The ability to analyze complex problems, break them down into manageable components, and derive meaningful insights to support decision-making processes.
- Strategic Mindset: A forward-thinking approach to aligning business objectives with technology solutions, anticipating future challenges, and identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
- Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate ideas, requirements, and recommendations clearly and persuasively to diverse stakeholders across functional and technical departments.
- Time Management: Ability to handle conflicting demands, prioritize workload, and effectively delegate while maintaining high-quality standards
The successful candidate can either be located in the Houston, TX area OR in the NYC area.
