Marubeni founded by Chubei Itoh (1842-1903) when, age 15, he began business trips to deal in linen cloth.  

Marubeni Corporation incorporated, and the following year listed shares on the Osaka Securities Exchange and Tokyo Stock Exchange.  

Marubeni started SmartestEnergy Limited, adding an asset-light renewable energy company to its portfolio.  

SmartestEnergy Limited entered the UK supply market, powering large businesses and Commercial and Industrial customers with renewable energy.
