    Background on Net Metering:

Illinois statutes require electricity suppliers to provide net metering services to a limited number of Eligible Customers (defined below). Eligible Customer that approved by SmartestEnergy for this program will be billed for the net amount of energy used by the Approved Eligible Customer. The Approved Eligible Customer will receive a credit if it generates more energy than it consumes. A link to Illinois rules can be found at the Illinois General Assembly website.

Definition of Eligible Customer for Net Metering:

"Eligible customer" or "customer" means a retail customer that owns or operates a solar, wind, or other eligible renewable electrical generating facility with a rated capacity of not more than 2,000 kilowatts (kW) that is located on the customer's premises and is intended primarily to offset the customer's own electrical requirements.
