SmartestEnergy’s Annual Report takes a look back at the highlights from a unique year, covering our global activities, increasing sustainability ambitions and response to the new normal.
SmartestEnergy’s inaugural annual report comes in the most memorable year of recent times. With the rise of a COVID-19, 2020 provided unique challenges for the business and our customers to overcome.
As the original asset-light energy supplier, we adapted to overcome these challenges to ensure that we could keep the business running very much as usual from our homes.
We haven’t let the global pandemic get in the way of our plans either. We successfully rebranded Dual Energy to SmartestEnergy Business and they continue to support small and medium sized companies, providing an excellent service as evidenced by their 4.4 Excellent Trustpilot rating. Our international businesses have also grown this year, as our team in the United States expanded their reach across states to reach a wider customer base and our Australian team celebrated the signing of their Memorandum of Understanding with CEP.Energy to operate a 400MW Virtual Power Plant, comprised of battery storage projects located across the country.
The economic fallout from this year has also acted as a catalyst for decarbonisation too, with much talk in energy now surrounding the green recovery and net-zero targets. We have taken the next step in our sustainability ambitions ourselves this past year by offsetting the carbon emissions associated with our own business activities. We’re proud to have accounted for our scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by investing in the Xenamnoy 1 Hydropower Project in Laos, meeting three UN sustainable development goals in the process.
SmartestEnergy CEO, Robert Groves said:
“The past year was a very difficult one for us all with the rise of a global pandemic unlike anything in living memory. I’m proud of how SmartestEnergy has adapted to these most unusual of times and look forward to the possibility of returning to something approaching normality in 2021 when we will also be celebrating our 20th anniversary.”
