The Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme (ESOS) is a mandatory energy assessment scheme, requiring large UK businesses to carry out an assessment every 4 years. These assessments are audits of the energy used by their buildings, industrial processes and transport to identify cost-effective energy saving measures.
Does your business qualify?
You will need to comply if your company employs at least 250 people or has an annual turnover of over 50 million Euros (£44.1m) or an annual balance sheet of over 43 million Euros (£37.9m), or is part of a corporate group.
How to comply with ESOS?
Businesses must notify the Environment Agency by a set deadline that they have complied with their ESOS obligations. The Phase 2 ESOS compliance deadline was the 5th December 2019. The next ESOS deadlines are:
Phase 3 Deadline: 5 December 2023
Phase 4 Deadline: 5 December 2027
