Kids' Competition: Build a Car of the Future

Following the fantastic entries we received for our previous kids colouring, grass head growing and wind turbine modelling competitions, we've come up with another family-friendly idea to to keep the kids occupied during the school summer holidays; build a car of the future!

National Grid ESO's most recent Future Energy Scenarios report has been published, setting out credible ways that the UK can achieve Net Zero by 2050 to reach global targets. One key takeaway from the report is the need for electrification in the transport sector; electric vehicles are the cars of the future and will play a vital role in the net zero transition, with an expected 37 million battery electric cars and vans on our roads by 2050.

In keeping with this topical conversation around the push to net zero, we thought we'd use this activity to educate the younger generation of today. Our judges are looking for the best 'car of the future' that demonstrates the best use of recycled materials!

Encourage your kids, friends and relatives aged 16 years or younger to build their own car of the future using recyclable household materials, showcasing their arts and crafts skills! We want everyone to get involved, so if you are unable to build your car, we would love to see some drawings too, and we can't wait to see your entries!
