Following two new successful Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Blackfinch Energy, we were excited to travel to Somerset and visit the Horsey Levels solar farm to celebrate its official energisation. In this blog, James Clark, Business Development Manager, shares a behind-the-scenes view of the visit.

Fast-tracking the energisation of renewable energy

Following two new successful PPA deals with Blackfinch Energy, bringing almost 33MW solar capacity to the market, we were excited to visit the Horsey Levels solar farm last month to celebrate the site's official energisation as the first project under the National Grid's acceleration scheme.

The National Energy System Operator's Technical Limits Programme was rolled out to streamline the integration of renewable energy into the national grid. We were pleased to have provided a route to market for the first operational site under this scheme and come together to recognise its connection as a significant step towards a cleaner energy future.

The official opening of the site

On the day, we celebrated the official opening of the site with a ribbon cutting by the Somerset Council chair.

The success of the acceleration scheme

We heard from representatives from National Grid, Enviromena and our partners, Blackfinch Energy, to learn about the construction of the site and the success of the acceleration scheme.

And then we pulled on our wellies and braced the mud for a tour of the site to learn a little more about the site’s connection and how the solar panels work and deliver energy to the local area.

Empowering the net zero transition with Blackfinch

Our attendance at the event came on the heels of two new deals signed with Blackfinch Energy for the 24MW Horsey Levels solar farm and 8.9MW Bryngolwg solar farm in Wales. We have worked with Blackfinch for a number of years on several successful PPA deals, both operational and pre-construction, and this latest collaboration further strengthens our long-standing relationship.

We look forward to working with Blackfinch further, acting as a stable and reliable partner to support their continued investment in renewable energy projects, continuing to pave the way for a faster transition to clean energy.
