The UK’s net zero sector is growing at triple the rate of the wider economy, according to new analysis by the CBI.

Its research found that the sector expanded by 10 per cent in 2024, generating £83 billion in gross value added (GVA) to the UK economy.

The report also said that unlike some industries that cluster in major cities, the net zero economy is “making waves across the entire UK”.

While London and the South East remain economic heavyweights, the real green revolution is happening in regions beyond the capital. The West Midlands, Yorkshire & the Humber, and South West England are emerging as hotspots,” it pointed out.

Sectors included in the analysis include energy-efficient building technologies, energy storage, low-carbon heating, pollution control, renewable energy generation and planning, waste management, and carbon capture.
