Leading PPA provider, SmartestEnergy Limited, and sustainable infrastructure investor, Blackfinch Energy, are pleased to announce the expansion of their successful ongoing partnership with the signing of two new Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) for new solar projects: Bryngolwg and Horsey Levels solar farms.
Having worked together for a number of years, SmartestEnergy's PCG-backed contracts provide Blackfinch with a secure and reliable route to market for their investments while furthering the shared goal of achieving net zero emissions throughout their collaboration.
The latest pre-construction PPA deals for the 8.9MW Bryngolwg and the 24MW Horsey Levels solar farms bring the shared portfolio between Blackfinch and SmartestEnergy to a total capacity of 54MW across a range of solar and onshore wind projects, which is enough to supply over 30,000 homes annually with clean, green electricity.
The signing of these most recent deals took place ahead of a recent event on March 12th celebrating the energisation of the Horsey Levels solar farm, the first renewable project energised as part of the National Energy System Operator's Technical Limits Programme, rolled out to help accelerate delayed connections. This groundbreaking initiative is a significant step towards a cleaner energy future by streamlining the grid connection process for Blackfinch's investment in solar power.
"We're proud to partner with a forward-thinking investor like Blackfinch, and this latest collaboration further strengthens a long-standing relationship, with several successful PPA deals, both operational and pre-construction," says Angus Widdowson, Head of Generation at SmartestEnergy. "With close collaboration, we act as a stable and reliable partner, supporting Blackfinch's continued investment in renewable energy projects by providing a viable route to market as they demonstrate their unwavering commitment to a sustainable future."
Alan Gorman, Investment Director at Blackfinch Energy, says: "Power Purchase Agreements are an important part of our strategy to create value for retail investors. Investing into energy infrastructure takes careful management of risk around energy pricing, to understand the impact on investor portfolios both now and in the future. We’re delighted to be able to work with SmartestEnergy who have collaborated with our team to build agreements that help us drive forward towards our goal of securing the renewable energy supply to the UK.”
